Bank Holiday Mural Hunting
We are well known for covering walls in paint around here. So I took myself out on a wander to find some of them.

Most of these are hanging out the the Merchant City area, indeed many are attached to my alma matter (for all of two years before I left). There’s even a website dedicated to the Glasgow murals.
My personal favourite is this one although I needed to crack out the wide angle lens to get it all in….

Ah now, that doesn’t do it justice. Also I have no idea why you would need to get the tripod out…. It was so sunny I was working in ISO 100 most of today. Here’s a set of photos with each of the major scenes from this end to the other side of the car park.

Happy Easter
Here’s some ducklings to brighten your day.

T Rex in Town
Across the road from Glasgow’s oldest adopted resident, Dippy, who is still hanging out in Kelvingrove Museum, there’s a new dinosaur in town. Trix, the Tyrannosaurus rex, is now in Kelvin Hall and she’s a real fossil. Not to throw shade at the still popular Dippy but he (she?) is a plaster cast of a true fossil. Abet a plaster mould with a prestigious permanent home in London.

Being the Easter holiday it’s the busiest place on earth…. (I’ve never been to Disneyland so can’t comment)…. It’s also hot for Scotland right now. The temperature is officially “taps aff” (feel free to google that) in the Glasgow area so of course I chose to kneel on the floor of another museum for extended periods. I think it was worth it though as I have some more long exposure (ghost people) shots. I went all out this time having learned from Dippy. I’m now equipped with a mini tripod (which is usually museum friendly) and a 2 stop ND filter (just enough to stop the camera over exposing the shots).

Lichfield, part 2
That’s the end of day two and it’s time to traverse the M6 to get to the Guide weekend hopefully for about 7….
So, Lichfield, lovely place, lots and lots of buildings from 17th and 18th centuries.

And home to the only 3 spired cathedral in the UK.

It’s not hugely busy, unlike York (at least it’s not 2 weeks before Easter) and it just seems like a brilliant place to live. Well the weather was dry so that always goes down well with me. Worth a visit, definitely take your camera.

Lichfield, part 1

Had a great wander after training today but it’s time for bed already. So I’ll get a proper set of shots up tomorrow. I’m already weird in this training as I was photo editing at lunchtime so blogging isn’t too much of a stretch.
Edinburgh in the Drizzle
If you’re heading for a shoot in Scotland you better watch out for the rain…

Scottish Parliament Debating Chamber

I’m back in Edinburgh on Sunday for a shoot outside the Parliament. It’s not open on Sundays so I won’t get a repeat of this shot from February when my Guides were on an adventure for Thinking Day.
Side note – photography is prohibited when the parliament is in session and I would definitely ask permission first.
Henry Moore Arch, Kensington Gardens

An oldie but a goodie from January last year when I went down to London. (Specifically for the Harry Potter: The History of Magic exhibition at the British Library but I got to play with the camera for a day)
Maritime Museum, Irvine
I spend quite a lot of time in Irvine. It has a cracking harbour and beach and you can catch lots of folk enjoying it in all seasons (although “enjoying” might be more appropriate for winter). Most weekends you’ll also find horses and their humans going for a gallop along the sand. There’s a fair few birds around to be captured if your lens is long enough.

But this time we’re here for the indoor portion of the Scottish Maritime Museum. There’s a charge to get in but it’s genuinely interesting. The west of Scotland relied on the Clyde and its shipbuilding expertise when it was growing during the industrial revolution. Most of that has disappeared now but we have places like this to help us remember. I, admittedly, never tried to utilise my tripod but they are probably open to their use when it’s not super busy. And there’s plenty of rust…. I have a rust problem….

Loads of stuff to get you thinking and well worth a visit.
